Dieumerci Christel
(Product Manager & Software Engineer)
Chinwé Watkins was born into a family of life-long educators. Her mother taught math and her father Black history, dedicated to making a difference in the family’s predominantly Afro-American community. Growing up in an impoverished part of South Dallas, she was mainly kept indoors, where she developed an early love for technology.
Wanting only the best for her daughter, Chinwé’s mother sent her to private school, only accessible through a scholarship. Only, just 5% of the students were African-American there, and Chinwé ended up being the only black student in many of her classes. She felt increasingly like an outsider. She was often overlooked and found it difficult to relate to the lessons—or her classmates—due to cultural differences. But her resilience kept her moving forward.
Chinwe' is a Software Engineer with a background in international business and customer service. After graduating from the University of North Texas and spending seven years in the restaurant and hospitality industry, Chinwe' found an unconventional way to combine her passions for creativity, hospitality, and education, leading her to pursue a career in edTech. Today, she carries her educational experiences with her, along with the legacy of her family, and the mission to empower young people in classrooms all over the country, so that no student feels left out, or left behind. No matter their circumstances. She hopes to offer a fresh technical perspective to Enlightapp’s mission to dynamically impact the education system, and is very excited to be a part of the team.
